Expansion WIR Bank

Expansion was planned for the WIR Bank headquarters in Basel. In addition to the urgently needed office space, the overall concept was to be structurally optimized. Furthermore, it was necessary to give the premises, which were already located in different parts of the building, a uniform appearance and thus create a new place of identification.

Project
In this challenging project, the task was to connect the annex building, with the already renovated main building in two ways and to bring additional daylight into the interior.

The visual connection between the new and the already renovated part of the WIR Bank is provided by the ventilated facade in the box panel system. To provide access to the terrace on the third floor, lift-slide windows from Wicona© were installed.

As a physical connection of the two company buildings “Auberg 1 & 3”, an unheated gangway was realized. This was pre-assembled at the factory and transported directly to the construction site by truck.

Sufficient daylight and a feeling of closeness to nature are provided by the two atriums inside the renovated annex building. With the new outdoor seating area on the first floor and the glass bridge above it, the area open to the sky was opened up as a meeting zone.
